Hi, I’m Courtney — a wife, mom to three strong daughters, and grandma to two beautiful grandkids. My husband and I have been married for over 26 years. He spent over two decades as the CEO of his own company and is now retired. We split our time between California and Arizona, balancing family, purpose, and peace.
Our daughters are all making their mark — one is the founder of a well-known skincare line, one is a dedicated paralegal, and our youngest, who is 10, is thriving in an online public school thanks to a well-supported IEP.
In fact, Courtney’s Piece was born because of her. She has Sensory Processing Disorder and other challenges, and I quickly had to become an expert in therapies, special education rights, and the IEP process to support her. I understand what it feels like to be in the fight — because I’m in it every day, just like you.
My journey didn’t start with her, though. I was also an IEP student growing up. So I bring a unique perspective: both as someone who’s lived it and now as a mom and advocate supporting my own child.
This site, Courtney’s Piece, is my way of giving back. I’m here to help parents become advocates, empower families to speak up, and create a place where you don’t feel alone.
Thanks for being here. I see you. I’m with you. And I believe in what’s possible for your child.t's something exciting your business offers? Say it here.
This site was never part of some big plan — it was born out of survival.
I’m a mom who had to figure out therapies, IEPs, and Sensory Processing Disorder when my daughter needed more than the system could offer. I didn’t have a roadmap. I became the advocate she deserved — and now, I want to be that voice for other parents, too.
Courtney’s Piece is for every overwhelmed parent trying to hold it together, find answers, and fight for their child’s future. You’re not alone — and this is your piece of the puzzle, too.
As a mom to a neurodivergent child with multiple learning disabilities and an IEP, traditional school settings just didn’t meet our needs. The noise, the pace, the pressure — it was overwhelming and unmanageable. That is why we made the switch to online public school, and it’s one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.
What I love most is the flexibility. We can structure our school day around what works for her. If a subject is too overwhelming or she’s overstimulated, we can pause, take a break, or even call it a day and start fresh tomorrow. That freedom has made learning feel possible again — not painful.
Another huge benefit is the strong communication with her teachers and case manager. I’ve felt heard, respected, and included every step of the way. We’ve been on this path for almost four years now, and the level of support has truly helped my daughter thrive, both academically and emotionally.
Online school may not be for everyone — but for families like mine, it's a lifeline. It gives us room to breathe, advocate, and customize her education in a way that simply wasn’t possible in a traditional classroom.
